The Bluebonnet Society for District 5790 ws initiated in 2012. The society is open to anyone in Rotary District 5790, but women are especially encouraged to join. Society members will receive a special pin, and be recognized at the Disrict 5790 District Conference. To be a member of the Bluebonnet Society, people are asked to pledge at least $100 or more --over a one to three -year period to our local District 5790 Foundation. $45 out every $50 of the contributions to the Bluebonnet Society will be earmarked to fund local and district matching grants that advance the status of women and girls in the six areas of focus:
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development
The balance of the funds generated will provide for the ongoing operation of the District Foundation.
The Bluebonnet Society Grant is a wonderful opportunity for Society members in District 5790 clubs to access the District Rotary Foundation Funds they have so generously donated. During the 2012-2013 year $ 3000 was set aside for Bluebonnet Society grants for local clubs for local community projects that benefit women and girls. The maximum amount to be matched is $1000. The amount of the grant funds to be distributed was determined by the level of district donations during the 2011-2012 Rotary Year.
