Gala Theme - The Power of One

Those that have read the Bryce Courtenay book "The Power of One" will remember that towards the end of the novel Peekay begins to question the role that the people around him have played in his life-he feels constrained by their goals for him, and realizes that his only self-initiated ambition is to become welterweight champion of the world. It is thus this ambition which allows him to feel "the power of one" within him.

 

Like our Keynote speaker, Dean Rohr, the author of the Power of One, Bryce Courtenay has lived in Africa. And, like the hero Peekay, Rohrs, the 2016-2018 Rotary International Director, explained that it’s amazing what one person can do in Rotary which makes the outcome extraordinary.  Rohrs said, “The power of one individual coupled the power of Rotary gives you the ability to take your passion and make extraordinary things happen.”
