Lewisville Morning Rotary Club will be joining fellow Rotarians from Flower Mound Rotary, Lewisville Noon Rotary, Lewisville Morning Rotary and Highland Village Rotary to work with over 900 Central Elementary School Students on October 7, 8 & 9th. The students will be learning how to generate electricity using a bicycle and with a generator attached to it. The electricity they generate will be used to drive a mini race track, light various types of light bulbs and a blower that will push a ball up a clear glass tube. Students will see how peddling faster and harder will push the ball higher or make the bulb glow brighter.

This spring Rotarians from the Lewisville area built 6 portable bike generators. the project was funded by Flower Mound Rotary, Lewisville Morning Rotary and Lewisville Noon Rotary with a matching District 5790 Grant to create a $9,500 project. Rotarians form the 3 clubs designed the assemblies and built 6 genrertor bikes that can be moved from school to school as the LISD STEM program is expanded into other elementary schools.

The STEM Project is a partnership event with participation from CCA, Lewisville ISD, Sci-Tech Museum, Rotary as well as other organizations that will be providing volunteers. The very first event will occur October 7, 8 & 9 at Central Elementary School. Using our experience at this very first event, we will be expanding the concept to other LISD schools as well as additional similar events at Central ES.
