About the District 5790 Vocational Excellence Awards Initiative

About the Rotary International District 5790 Honoring Those Who Serve Vocational Initiative.

Rotary Clubs throughout District 5790 are recognizing the vocations of our Communities first responders and teachers on a quarterly basis. According to District 5790 Vocational Award Recognition. Chair Eddie Salame, during each quarter of the 2016/17 Rotary year district clubs will recognize a police officer, firefighter, paramedic and a teacher. Depending on club, recognition will be done in the same month of the quarter or they can be spread out throughout the quarter. In other words, clubs can recognize a teacher the first month of the quarter, a firefighter/paramedic the second month and a police officer on the third month. Or clubs may also recognize all three professionals in the same month.

During the month of March 2017, all clubs will review all the recipients that were recognized by their club. One of the winners from each category is to be submitted for District wide recognition. By April 1st each club in the district will submit the name of one teacher, one firefighter/paramedic and one police officer from the club, along with the write-up  used  to select that  person.

The district committee will review all the candidates submitted and select one person from each category to be invited to the district conference for recognition. Clubs will be notified if a person from their club has been selected.

Cross Timbers Rotary honors Rocky Salmon with Vocational Excellence Award
Rocky Salmon, Lewisville ISD
Mr. Salmon has filled the role of department chair this year and has been tireless in working with new staff to get students ready for advancement in classes and better prepared for graduation. In addition, he has taken a leadership role on the campus to improve campus morale and professional development opportunities on campus, as well as with district protocols and requirements. He is the first to volunteer and is usually the last person standing to help evaluate and update for a better result in the future. Mr. Salmon has taken district and campus directives and enthusiastically supported all planning, encouraging and supporting new and veteran staff members alike. He is a valuable edition to our staff and we are better for him being here.

Cross Timbers Rotary Club honors Vocational Excellence Award winner Captain Dean Feldpausch
Captain Dean Feldpausch, Lewisville Fire Department
The Lewisville Fire Department added a captain position to help with EMS operations. Dean applied and was excited about the opportunity. Even though this did not involve a promotion or pay increase for Dean, he was willing to change his work schedule for the first year to get the position started. Through his efforts, the position has grown and has become an integral part of our EMS program. Although this was a tough assignment, Dean has approached it with a great attitude and his work is worthy of recognition.

Cross Timbers Rotary Club honors Detective Clint Murphy with Vocational Excellence Award

Detective Clint Murphy, Double Oak Police Department
During the years 2015-2016 the Town of Double Oak experienced a substantial amount of identity theft based crime. During 2016, 31 false income tax returns were filed for refunds not due the recipient. Detective Murphy developed an investigative plan and worked tirelessly with I.R.S. Denton County, D. A., other municipal, corporate and banking investigators to develop leads, obtain evidence, freeze stolen funds and identify and arrest multiple suspects. After the conclusion of over a year long investigation, Det. Murphy had identified U.S. based tax preparers responsible for at least 8 of the Double Oak filings (information forwarded to the IRS for investigation); recovered $13,355 of stolen currency; and identified by name and address well over a dozen more suspects involved in various identity theft fraud schemes. As a result of Det. Murphy’s efforts, 1 suspect has been arrested in Harris County; 1 suspect arrested in Mesquite and prosecuted in Denton County; 1 suspect arrested in Kansas; and 1 suspect arrested in Oregon. Detective Murphy’s ability to work with multiple jurisdictions, obtain video and computer evidence from numerous institutions and service providers and prepare timely and effective case reports is a credit to the law enforcement profession.
