Welcome
Welcome to Environmental Sustainability in Rotary District 5790

Rotarians have always been people of action. We see a need, bring together dedicated volunteers, and create lasting change in our communities. Today, one of the greatest opportunities for service lies in protecting and sustaining the environment that supports all life and all communities.
Recognizing this need, Rotary International added Environmental Sustainability as its seventh Area of Focus. This decision reflects a simple truth: healthy communities depend on a healthy environment. Clean air, safe water, productive land, thriving wildlife habitats, and resilient ecosystems are essential for human health, economic prosperity, and quality of life. When environmental resources are threatened, the impacts are often felt most by those who are least able to adapt.
For Rotarians, environmental sustainability is more than conservation—it is service above self in action. Every tree planted, every stream restored, every school garden established, every recycling initiative promoted, and every educational program delivered helps create a better future for generations to come. Environmental projects also support many of Rotary's other Areas of Focus by improving public health, strengthening communities, supporting education, and helping create more stable and prosperous societies.
District 5790 encompasses a diverse region of North Texas where environmental challenges and opportunities are all around us. Water conservation, urban tree canopies, native habitat restoration, pollinator protection, litter reduction, community beautification, environmental education, and sustainable community development are just a few areas where Rotary clubs can make a meaningful difference. Whether your club has twenty members or two hundred, there are projects that can match your interests, resources, and community needs.
The good news is that meaningful impact does not require massive budgets or complex programs. Small local projects, when multiplied across dozens of clubs, can produce extraordinary results. Imagine the collective impact if every club in District 5790 completed even one environmental project each year. Together, we could improve communities, engage new generations of volunteers, build stronger partnerships, and leave a legacy that extends far beyond our own lifetimes.
This website has been created to help clubs turn ideas into action. Here you will find project suggestions, best practices, educational resources, grant opportunities, partnership ideas, and examples of successful environmental initiatives from Rotary clubs around the world. Our goal is to inspire, support, and connect Rotarians who want to make environmental stewardship part of their service mission.
The challenges facing our environment can seem large, but Rotarians have never been intimidated by big challenges. Throughout our history, we have proven that dedicated people working together can achieve remarkable results. By embracing environmental sustainability, we continue that tradition while helping to ensure a healthier, cleaner, and more resilient future for our communities.
We invite every Rotarian, every club, and every community partner in District 5790 to join us. Together, we can transform concern into action, service into impact, and vision into a lasting legacy for future generations.
