Summer Service Project –
June 23-27, 2019
We have an exciting district-wide service project planned for this year.  We are seeking 120+ people to help work on a number of different projects in GUATEMALA centered around strengthening schools, providing clean water and improved hygiene. We are looking for both skilled and unskilled volunteers who have experience with:
  • Plumbing, electrical, tile, and/or carpentry
  • Painting – including murals and artwork
  • IT skills for computer lab
  • Medical / nursing needs
  • Spanish language (help w/ translation)
Several projects will be focused on strengthening schools and improving the health of students and their families. Some of the projects we will be working on:
  • Replacing the roof on a school in an earthquake prone region
  • Repairing bathrooms in several schools
  • Installing new stoves with chimneys and other appliances in school kitchens
  • Assisting with hygiene health initiatives to improve hand washing and sanitary habits
  • Installing a computer lab in school for elementary kids, special needs children, and college age young adults
FASTRACK YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Expanding a successful program on the east coast for the past 14 years. At risk students (70% rural and 30% city) are given a comprehensive 3 year long education and apprenticeship. They attend school for 3 hours a day and then intern with a chosen business for 5 hours.  Students usually come in with the equivalent of a 6th grade education and leave the program with a high school degree. 80% of these leave with a job.
We will work together with the local technical school constructing desks, tables, etc. and leave the tools behind with the host Rotary club for the school’s use.

Opportunity to connect with other Rotarians:
You will have the opportunity to see first hand how effective Rotary is in meeting needs around the world by working along side Rotarians, Rotoractors, and Interactors from several Rotary clubs in Guatemala.

LODGING, TRANSPORATION AND MEALS
We will be staying in beautiful Antigua. Resort hotels have numerous amenities including spa services and great dining opportunities.
We are striving to keep the cost of the trip below $1,000 per person (double occupancy).  At this point, the airfare ranges between $475 and $800.  Hotel cost will be in the range of $45 - $100 per night.
