Come join RC of Denton Evening for a
Winter Warmer on March 7th at
120 E. McKinney St. in Denton, TX

We hope you all can join us at the Denton Evening Rotary's Third Annual Winter Warmer, on March 7th, from noon until 5:00 ish at 120 and 200 E. McKinney, Denton, TX. Our hosts, Bearded Monk and Denton County Brewing Company, will offer great beer and food, we'll have music and door prizes, and it's all to raise money to purchase laptops for high school seniors going to college. Purchase available at the door for $10/person.
We want to tell you about a great group of kids. They’re high school students in the Denton ISD Talent Search Program. They have a number of things in common — they’ve all maintained a 3.0 GPA throughout high school and they’ll all be graduating high school this year. Over the last four years, they’ve also each faced the challenges that can come along with being from a low-income family and needing to rely on some sort of financial assistance program at school. Yet, they’ve overcome these challenges — each one of these kids is headed to college and has earned scholarships and financial aid to help cover their tuition.

However, another thing that each of these kids has in common is that they’ll need computers to successfully navigate the modern college experience. And for their families, a laptop is not in the budget.

That’s why UpTop Denton, founded by Chris Briggs, works to meet that need. Thanks to a partnership with a local retailer, UpTop can provide a student with a fully-loaded laptop for only $250 each. However, that money has to come from somewhere. In the first year of UpTop, 2017, there wasnt enough money raised to buy every eligible Talent Search graduate a laptop. Which is where Denton Evening Rotary comes in. Each year since 2018, Denton Evening Rotary has partnered with UpTop to make sure every Talent Search graduate receives a laptop, whether that’s six, or 18, 28, or 50. Most of the money comes from large single donations and from tickets sales for the Rotary Winter Warmer, a four-hour fundraiser on the first Saturday in March, featuring live music from local artists, beer from Bearded Monk and Denton County Brewing, and food from local vendors. Thanks to generous host bars and sponsors, every dollar of Winter Warmer ticket sales in past years has gone to UpTop to buy laptops.
