The Rotary Organization is constantly evolving. One of the recent evolutionary changes that has confused at least this writer is what is our Rotary Theme for the month of October. Our trusty Rotary district 5790 Directory indicated on page 120 that the October theme is Vocational Service. So, we sent an e-mail to the club presidents requesting stories we could use that described how their club celebrates Vocations. And we received 4 or 5 responses that you will see in this issue of the Squeaky Wheel.

A little while later, while rooting through some information on Rotary. org I ran across the and discovered the theme for October was one of the six areas of focus " Economic and Community Development".

Well, that is a fine "how-do-you-do". We already have vocation articles folks have submitted and it is to late to seek articles on Economic and Community Development.. So, todays publication celebrates a little of both. Under the new calendar, Vocations was moved to January. In some respects, discussing Vocations in October works better because it offers us the opportunity to share this years Four Way Test Speech Contest. Clubs need to start working with the high school debate and speech teachers now to be ready for the contests that will take place in January and February.

In case you are interested the new Rotary theme calendar can be found here. Hopefully, club presidents and program directors are using this calendar to promote these themes within their clubs.

We are hopeful that sharing ideas of what other clubs are doing could inspire your club.
