Serve. Connect. Explore.
What if one week of your time could change someone’s life for years to come?
Rotary District 5790 is heading to Costa Rica, May 2–7, 2027, and there is still an opportunity for Rotarians to join the team!
In partnership with the Rotary Club of Belén, District 4240, participants will work side by side with Costa Rican Rotarians and local volunteers to provide wheelchairs to children and adults who have been carefully identified through local organizations.
This is not simply a wheelchair delivery. Volunteers will take part in the entire process, from assembling each chair, helping fit it to the recipient’s individual needs, and personally presenting it to the person who will use it. It is hands-on service with an immediate and very personal impact.
A wheelchair can mean far more than mobility. It can give a child the opportunity to attend school, allow a parent to work, and restore independence, dignity and hope to an entire family. Rotary Wheelchair Project Guide
What the Week Includes
Participants will begin with orientation and project-site preparation, followed by two wheelchair distribution days in communities throughout Costa Rica. Teams will serve in five regions: Belén, Cartago & Turrialba, San Pedro & Curridabat, Sarapiquí, and Uvita & Osa. Wheelchair Distribution Video
And because this is Costa Rica, there is a little Pura Vida built into the week too! Thursday is a dedicated Costa Rica Tourism Day, with participants choosing from several full-day excursions before everyone gathers for a farewell dinner and celebration.
